ARC Irish Meadows by Susan Anne Mason Book Review

The following review is entirely my opinion. I encourage you to comment but please be respectful. If you don't agree with my opinion that's completely ok. I am just sharing my opinion and perspective of this novel.

Irish Meadows (Courage to Dream #1)

Author: Susan Anne Mason
Series: Courage to Dream
Expected publication: 4th August 2015

Genre: Christian Fiction, Romance
Publisher: Bethany House

Irish immigrant James O’Leary has spent his life building Irish Meadows into a thriving horse farm and is not about to let hard economic times threaten its success. He intends for his daughters to marry prosperous men–ones who will secure the family’s rightful place in society, and at the same time, guarantee the future of Irish Meadows. Both girls, however, have different visions for their futures.

Brianna and Colleen O’Leary know their father expects them to marry well. Yet despite his wishes, Brianna, the quieter sister, dreams of attending college. Vivacious Colleen, meanwhile, is happy to marry–as long as her father’s choice meets her exacting standards. When stable hand Gilbert Whelan returns from college and distant family member Rylan Montgomery stops in on his way to the seminary in Boston, the two men quickly complicate everyone’s plans. It will take every ounce of courage for both sisters to follow their hearts. And even if they do, will they inevitably find their dreams too distant to reach?

My Review:

I received this from Net Galley in an exchange for an honest review.

To be honest the cover was what really stood out to me but not exactly my taste.

Before we begin, I will like to state this is Christian Fiction novel which has a lot of prayer verses and themes so please do not be negative.

Christian fiction is my least favorite genre but it is always good to try something new.The only other Christian novel, I can recall reading was Rainbow's End by Irene Hannon, and that's pretty much it.Overall, it was entertaining and enjoyable read.

Great writing very descriptive and adventure packed.

I loved the drama right away in the beginning of the chapter.

Themes present in this book are:

Religion (Faith in God):
definitely plays a pivotal role in this  story. Simply, because it is a Christian novel, but don't go stereotyping the novel without giving it a try.

Love and trust:
Wow really affectionate couples who  are practically family, interesting topic to venture to; rather bold step. Family Incense technically. Just kidding.WHY ARE WE FIGHTING THIS Dangerous ATTRACTION!

Susan played out these love interest so well though, for the majority of this book I felt like this cat.

Independence(Search for identity) and Growth:

Totally like the heroine's perception of education and in general the positive message behind her character.

Feminist empowerment:
***flawless quote***

Sweet tooth Scenes:
When Gil holds Brianna in his arms, and called her honey that was too cute in mind. And you guessed it I was sing Beyonce ''Love on Top" the first line.

Mr.O'Leary(Brianna's mother) character reminds me of the male version of Mrs.Bennett from Pride and Prejudice, always harassing

their children or either coming up with some scheme of marrying off their children.

Actually, come to think of it this reminds me a lot of Pride and Prejudice spin off except with more horses.
And the different perspectives of the characters.

It really gives the reader a 3 dimensional view of the story, from Brianna to Gil. Gil is a sensitive, observant and understanding person and exhibits good  traits of a leader. And he has a soft spot for crying females.

All characters are relatable except Adam. Apparently, his story is set to debut in 2016, in which I know I will definitely be reading, because that how emotionally involved in this book.

Colleen O'Leary(Brianna's sister) is a down right b***h, in the beginning. Even though, her transformation was very quick.

Only for the sake of this story did I play along with this delusional part of the story. However, towards the ending the transformation was very much sincere and honest. But personally, I don't think someone could change that quick except with God's help which she managed to do just fine.

Not until page 30, I can truly say I was really engaged. It's worth it to keep reading though. I thought the story didn't need to be dragged out that long, but because of the drama at every turn, I continued reading.

Guys, you definitely need to read this book to understand my emotions.

Moreover, the moment when a book makes you google words you don't know:a)you don't know your vocabulary b)you are definitely know it's a sign you are learning some valuable information.

animosity:strong hostility

beguile:charm or enchant

besiege:surround (a place) with armed forces in order to capture it or force its surrender

I will give this story

The Book Life Tag

Thank you!
And I tag anyone who is interested in participating.

1.Who would your parents be?

Rachel from Of Poseidon, was absolutely hilarious and I’m intrigued to find out more about her. She would make a great parent, comfort me and provide mostly all my basic needs like she did for Galene.

  2.Who would be your sister?

Dee Black from Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. She is pretty, funny, friendly and energetic. She could total teacher me a few tricks and tips.

3.Who would be your brother?

Damon Black from Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
He eats just as much as me and is the sweetest brother ever literally out of this world, literally. So, he is going to be my brother. Considering how protective he is of Dee, I think he would be an amazing older brother.

4.Who would be your pet?

Iko, is an android that belonged to the Linh family and the friend of Linh Cinder. From Cinder the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. She is a fully functioning, talking and helpful robot, NEED I SAY MORE.

5.Where would you live?

I would live in any tropical island, that has aqueduate fun activities, resources and shopping centers, beaches.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)6.Where would you go to school?

I don't even have to think twice, I would definitely demand that I attend Hogwarts for magic studies and to have epic battles with Lord Voldemort so many times we will become best friends.

And I will definitely be in Gryffindor, no joke.

7. Who would be your best friend?

Rosemarie Hathway from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Rose has an amazing sense of humor and I knows she has my back even till DEATH. Ride or die.I would love to have her as my best friend.

8.Who would be your significant other?

This could be a never ending list, and I am not joking. But I will just write one recent favorite. That's the bronzed barbarian Challen Ly-San-Ter from Warrior's Woman by Johanna Lindsey. When I read this book, I definitely felt the couples romantic connection and I will never be able to take Challen from Tedra, they are too cute especially when they are both jealous.

Firstly, I love the cover of the book, it is one the main attention grabber before I read the summary. And to be honest before I even read the summary, I got the book.

My emotions after reading this book.......

I was a bit predictable but, still enjoyed it and it's a story about a chance of life with the main character,America Singer not wanting any part of it. Yet, she is still picked to be a apart of the Selection. Hence the title of the book.I like how they portrayed America. She is apart of caste # 5 who are artists and singers etc. Hence, the name yet again. But Aspen was disagreeable, he had a lot pride and a bit too clingy. Geez!

But, Maxon was prefect! I thought is a bit relatable and touch of comedy. It's like the 'Bachelor' and Cinderella and plus Mean girls. But with the main character developing and undergoing a beautiful transformation from the caterpillar to beautiful butterfly. What a combination!
Lastly, I highly recommend this book for those of you who love those cliche movies, a light and enjoyable read.

POV of a captured slave.....

The echoes of metal at our feet became a constant reminder of our terrible fortune. My heart hammered in my constricted rib cage at the sight before me. one by one various tribe members consumed with pride and grief toppled over and sank at the depths of the sea.

Fear froze me to the core, the steady rhythm of the cannibal with whispers of the water churned my stomach, but I quelled the urge to vomit. The wood beneath my feet allowed the reality to sink in. As the white man barked unknown orders, I admired my homeland probably for the last time. My past life the very thing I took for granted everyday.

The illuminated orb, which poured forth abundant sunlight on the lush evergreen trees and plants. And the breath of my very ancestors cried in the distance as I marched into the pitch black abyss towards my death. The clank of metal, the eerie creek of the wooden trap door and the darkness heightened my fear. The sheer panic threatened to consume me. All senses came alive as if awaken from a deep slumber and the will to survive was a force to be reckoned with.

The first few weeks drove me into a corner of pure isolation. My limbs went numb and the overbearing stench of blood, urine and my own feces burned my nostrils with shame. A people of great treasure and prestige reduce to filthy pigs. In the next weeks immense change occurred we bonded as one united people through grief, pain and anger, as well as songs which conveyed a deeper meaning only we knew of.

The shortage of food and water fuelled my anger through vengeance. Not to mention the multiple cries of innocent doves drained of their pride by lust hound predators, who came out of the shadows of night. Whilst, laying right next them, strained from helping. As if shacking us to death was not enough. My body may never know the taste of freedom so sweet. Chances are I will not make it and my loved ones will never know how much my heartache for their love and affection.

But at last, the Middle Passage, I had survived hanging on by a thread. As the sunlight greeted me, I knew with sheer conviction the torture was not over.
